The Chinese Intellectual Property Office is
the Chinese Patent Office, founded in 1980. Nowadays, the Chinese
Intellectual Property Office bears mainly the following responsibilities
to draft proposals of and amendments to patent related legislations; to
receive and examine patent applications for invention, utility model and
design, to grant patents, to deal with requests for reexamination and
invalidation, and to receive and examine applications for registration
of layout designs of integrated circuits; to coordinate and harmonize
international affairs in Intellectual Property field; to administer
nation-wide patent affairs; and to instruct local governmental agencies
in administrative enforcement of the patent law. |

TRADE MARK OFFICE |

The China Trade Mark Office is in charge of
the registration and administration of trademarks nationwide,
specifically responsible for such issues as follows: registering good
marks, services marks, collective marks, certification marks etc.;
dealing with oppositions to registered trademarks and other matters
concerning modification, assignment, renewal, cancellation of registered
trademarks and reissue of trademark certificates; providing guidance to
local administrative authorities for industry and commerce (AICs) in
handing trademark infringement and counterfeiting cases; determining and
protecting well-know trademarks in accordance with law; working out
regulations and concrete measures in respect of trademark registration
and administration; implementing international trademark treaties and
agreements in China and undertaking the international exchanges and
cooperation in the field of trademark. |

The Government of the Hong Kong
Special Administrative Region (SAR) attaches great weight to the
contribution that the creation of intellectual property makes to
the economy. To underline the commitment of intellectual
property protection, the Hong Kong government established the
Intellectual Property Office in July 1990. The Hong Kong
Intellectual Property Office is responsible for advising the
Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development on policies and
legislation to protect intellectual property in Hong Kong SAR;
for operating the Hong Kong SAR's Trade Marks, Patents,
Registered Designs and Copyright Licensing Bodies Registries,
and for promoting intellectual property protection through
public education. |

Singapore, a statutory board under the Ministry of Law since
April 2001, is the lead government agency that advises on and
administers intellectual property (IP) laws, promotes IP

The World Intellectual Property
Organization (WIPO) is a specialized agency of the United
Nations. It is dedicated to developing a balanced and accessible
international intellectual property (IP) system, which rewards
creativity, stimulates innovation and contributes to economic
development while safeguarding the public interest. WIPO was
established by the WIPO Convention in 1967 with a mandate from
its Member States to promote the protection of IP throughout the
world through cooperation among states and in collaboration with
other international organizations. Its headquarters are in
Geneva, Switzerland. |
